THE ULTRASONIC NOSE JOB Helena says: "When I was little, I fell down the stairs. After that, my nose veered to one side and had a lump on the bridge that made it look like a witch's crook. I was teased at school and, as an adult, I avoided being in photos. I didn't even want to be in my wedding snaps, as the idea of everyone staring at me was terrifying.

"My husband never saw an issue with my nose and I didn't want to pass my insecurities on to my daughters, so I put off having surgery. Then my friend told me she'd heard about a new procedure with little downtime. I looked it up online and gave Dr Chana's clinic a call. I was nervous, but was told I was a good candidate and knew it was now or never.

"The op took three hours under general anaesthetic. The next week, they took off the bandages and there was barely any swelling or bruising, just a tiny yellow tinge under one eye. It was amazing. I could see immediately how different my nose looked - there was no bump and I finally had the cute button nose I always wanted. To say it's changed my life would be an understatement - I can look at photos now without dreading seeing my nose."

Suitable for: Getting rid of bumps, narrowing the nasal bridge and correcting deviated septums.

Cost: PS8000. Call 0845 5191096 or visit Regular nose jobs involve a lot of downtime, but consultant plastic surgeon Dr Jag Chana has introduced Ultrasonic Rhinosculpture, which promises quicker recovery and more precise results.

Dr Chana said: "Other techniques chisel and file at the bone, which causes tissue trauma. By using a probe-like device that emits ultrasonic energy, I can very accurately shape the nose without damaging cartilage or soft tissue, meaning any swelling and bruising should subside by two weeks."

WHAT'S NEW CELLULITE FIX Cellfina breaks the tiny connective bands woven through the fat in thighs and bums, which pucker and cause those tell-tale dimples. A needle-sized device severs the bands in a one-off 45-minute treatment and skin is left to ping back to a smoother shape. It claims to reduce cellulite by 90 per cent. Cost: From PS2000. Silhouette Soft nationwide: Ashliegh was treated by Dr Saleena Zimri at Skin Doctors Clinic in Leeds, Collagen is our face's natural scaffolding and we all lose it as we age, so skin gets saggier. Silhouette Soft lifts the face using dissolvable threads of polylactic acid (the same stuff dissolvable stitches are made from) with tiny cones attached. The threads are inserted just under the skin and the cones hold them in place and pull up sagging skin.

Dr Saleena Zimri said: "The threads also stimulate the body to create its own collagen to replace what age or weight loss has diminished." The threads are naturally re-absorbed, and results last 18-24 months.

Ashliegh says: "A couple of years ago I did Weight Watchers and lost over four stones. I was pleased but it was as if the skin on my face and neck were now too baggy for me. Dr Zimri explained the procedure, saying I'd have a local anaesthetic, then showed me where she'd be going in near my ear and coming out at my chin. She said I might feel a bit of pain as she went in, but I didn't - just a tugging feeling. She warned there might be bruising and swelling afterwards, but the only thing I got was a little bruise in my neck that was gone in a week. The moment I looked in the mirror afterwards I could see the difference - it's brought my neck right up. The skin was so much smoother and firmer, it's absolutely great. I don't think I look like I've been "done", but it's made me so much happier. It's in photos that I notice it most, like I've got a younger version of myself back. I had it done a year ago and I know it doesn't last forever, but it's still smoother now. The difference to my confidence is amazing."
