CHAMBERS RECEIVES PERMIT FOR NEW OHIO LANDFILL

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Chambers Development Company, Inc. (AMEX: CDVA,CDVB) today announced that it has been granted a permit for the construction and operation of a solid waste sanitary landfill in Harrison County, Ohio.
"This project has been five years in the making and we believe this new landfill in Harrison County will be the prototype for all future environmentally sound waste management facilities in the state of Ohio," said Alexander Rangos, Chambers' executive vice president of Operations and Corporate Development. "It has been conceived and designed to provide environmental security, to minimize community and aesthetic impacts, and to incorporate safe and efficient transportation as a necessary component to modern regional environmental solutions."
The facility will meet or exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Subtitle D and Ohio BAT regulations and provide an alternative to the many remaining facilities in Ohio which do not meet either.
The permit, issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, authorizes the company to begin construction on a 57 million cubic yard landfill that will be able to accept a daily maximum of 5,000 tons per day of municipal solid waste and non-hazardous industrial wastes. The landfill footprint itself will utilize 259 acres within a 941-acre site. The company owns more than 2,000 acres of property where the landfill will be constructed.
The landfill will be constructed utilizing the best available technology, including a liner system incorporating both synthetic liner material and compacted soil components. Leachate generated during the operation of the facility will be collected and removed for treatment at a local wastewater treatment facility.
A series of wells surrounding the facility will monitor the groundwater quality, thus further assuring the integrity of the liner systems.
The facility will also employ a combination of security and inspection systems that have been developed by Chambers to prevent the disposal of illegal wastes at the landfill.
"This disposal facility is capable of having direct rail service to the site. In addition to excellent truck access, we expect to be able to make effective use of the patented 'Railaway Plus' system -- the country's first rail-haul system specifically designed to handle solid and semi-solid wastes in an environmentally sound fashion," Rangos said.
The Harrison County landfill is located approximately 65 miles west of Pittsburgh, 125 miles southeast of Cleveland and 125 miles east of Columbus.
The facility marks Chambers' first operating landfill in Ohio.
