CHAMBERS PRESIDENT RECEIVES AMERICAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AWARD

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Orthodox Church in America has presented its highest award for a layman to John G. Rangos Sr., president and CEO of Chambers Development Company, Inc. (AMEX: CDVA, CDVB), it was announced today.
Patriarch Alexsy presented the Order of St. Innocent award to Rangos for his outstanding work with the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). Rangos received the award during a ceremony in Chicago on Sept. 24.
Rangos was one of the founders of IOCC that was formed in March 1992. It is the official humanitarian organization of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas. The purpose of IOCC is to provide relief in humanitarian emergencies, long-term assistance for economic self-sufficiency of the poor, helping the Orthodox Church become an effective provider of relief and social services and to educate the public about global poverty.
"I am extremely honored and, frankly, quite surprised to receive this distinguished award. I have received many awards during my lifetime, but this one will have a special place in my heart," Rangos said. "It is a special award because I did not become involved in IOCC for awards and accolades -- but rather, for my love of mankind.
"The IOCC began as an idea in January 1991, and in 1992, we airlifted some $4.5 million worth of food, medicine and medical supplies to Russia. And as recently as July of this year, an agreement was signed between IOCC and the USDA for more than $15 million to provide food commodities for 1993-94 in the Russian Federation. IOCC has also been one of the few organizations to aid all factions in the conflict in the former Yugoslavia.
"Since 1992, millions of pounds of food and medicine have been distributed to millions of people, grants have been awarded from IOCC to many organizations, offices have been opened in Moscow, Greece, Belgrade and the lists go on. The organization has come a long way in just 1-1/2 years," Rangos said.
