CFD software offers new cavitation model. (Computer Hardware & Software).

AEA Technology Engineering Software reports that the latest version (2.12) of its CFX-TASCflow computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software for mechanical engineering offers a new and improved cavitation model, along with other benefits.

Based on the volume of fluids (VOF) approach, the new cavitation model provide solutions for many common application areas such as hydraulic flows in pumps, turbines, inducers, and fuel injection systems. According to CFX, this new VOF model enables users to model the effects of free stream absolute temperature, bubble radius, evaporation constant, condensation constant, vapor source stream relaxation, liquid/mixture density blend factor, noncondensable dissolved gas mass fraction, and a range of material properties. The company notes that the constant enthalpy of vaporization (CEV) model offered in earlier versions continues to be available.

Also new with CFX-TASCflow v.2.12, the software now supports 64-bit architectures such as HP UX 11, Solaris 8, and AIX 51. Thus, says CFX, the new version makes it possible for users to access more memory and solve problems 8- to 10-million nodes in size in serial mode, larger in parallel mode.

It also provides usability improvements. Among the most significant is said to be a new boundary condition command language that makes it easier to integrate CFX-TASCflow into automated optimization programs. Also, a real-gas property visualization tool that can verify the contents of property tables in RGP files has been implemented. And a new results probe panel is said to provide instant feedback of preselected field variable values at the chosen coordinates within the current geometry.
