CF MOTORFREIGHT ENHANCES PUERTO RICO SERVICE; TRUCKING COMPANY SHIPS THROUGH PORT OF NEWARK

MENLO PARK, Calif., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CF MotorFreight, one of the nation's largest long-haul trucking companies, has initiated direct less-than-truckload (LTL) service from the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada to Puerto Rico via the Port of Newark in New Jersey.
The new gateway is an expansion of the company's current service to Puerto Rico via ports in Jacksonville, Fla., and Miami.
"Because of reduced inland transportation and less freight handling, North Atlantic ports are the preferred service option for shippers seeking LTL service from the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada to Puerto Rico," said Peter Boulais, executive vice president of sales and marketing for CF MotorFreight. "CF MotorFreight now offers a complete range of transportation options for shipping to Puerto Rico."
CF MotorFreight has served Puerto Rico since 1979. The company provides a single invoice for all charges, door-to-door shipment tracking services and computerized advance billing that allows Puerto Rican consignees to pay excise taxes during freight movement, eliminating any delays on arrival. The company also maintains a toll- free telephone hotline to provide customers with Puerto Rican shipping schedules and rates: 800-453-4867.
Annual trade between the United States and Puerto Rico amounts to nearly $30 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. If Puerto Rico were an independent country, it would rank 10th in U.S. exports at $10.8 billion, and seventh in U.S. imports at $18.7 billion. As a manufacturing site, key trade items for Puerto Rico include pharmaceuticals, computer electronics and machinery.
LTL shipments traveling to Puerto Rico are carried by ocean vessel on a twice-weekly basis to destination ports and picked up by CF MotorFreight operations on the other end.
CF MotorFreight's international service also extends to Argentina, Chile, Jamaica, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, Costa Rica, Panama, the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as Mexico and Canada.
CF MotorFreight provides intermediate and long-haul transportation of LTL freight, shipments generally weighing less than 10,000 pounds.
Through its freight-flow system of nearly 600 terminals and 22,000 employees, CF MotorFreight serves virtually every business address in North America, including the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America. A subsidiary of Consolidated Freightways Inc. (NYSE: CNF), CF MotorFreight is based in Menlo Park.
