CERADYNE ANNOUNCES CUSTOM WEAPONS SYSTEM COMPONENT PROGRAM
WITH MARTIN MARIETTA ENERGY SYSTEMS MOST LIKELY TO BE CANCELLED
COSTA MESA, Calif., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Ceradyne Inc. (NASDAQ: CRDN) was informed today that its custom weapons system component program with Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Oak Ridge, Tenn., would most likely be cancelled. This potential cancellation would be "for the convenience of the Government" and thus the company will receive appropriate cancellation reimbursement. However, cancellation would result in reduced future sales of about $3 million over the next 24 months.
Ceradyne continues to experience reduced defense-related business while its longer-range strategy is to focus on industrial and electronic markets featuring advanced technical ceramics such as silicon nitride and its cathodes for next generation TV and CRT applications.
