CENTRAL HUDSON OFFERS NATURAL GAS VEHICLES FOR PRESIDENT'S VISIT

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- With the announcement that President Bill Clinton may come to Hyde Park Friday for a town meeting on the economy, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation has offered the President the use of a natural gas car for his visit and the use of a natural gas school bus for transporting the President's staff or White House media.
In a letter to Energy Secretary Hazel R. O'Leary, Central Hudson President and Chief Operating Officer Paul J. Ganci noted that both President Clinton and Secretary O'Leary are strong proponents of the use of natural gas. Secretary O'Leary uses a natural gas car.
"Central Hudson provides natural gas service to over 58,000 customers in the Hudson Valley and has an aggressive natural gas marketing campaign," wrote Ganci. "This includes a rapidly expanding natural gas vehicle program featuring natural gas cars, trucks, vans and school buses. For Central Hudson and the Hudson Valley, natural gas is not just a fuel of the future; it is a fuel for today."
"To reinforce that point," Ganci wrote, "Central Hudson would like to offer the President the use of a natural gas car from our fleet during his visit to the Hudson Valley. In addition, we would be pleased to provide a natural gas school bus for transporting the President's staff or the members of the media accompanying the President on his visit."
Ganci said the utility is making the offer "to support President Clinton's goals of seeking energy independence for America and promoting a cleaner environment through the use of a clean burning, North American fuel, natural gas."
Central Hudson has a fleet of approximately 25 natural gas-powered vehicles. Included are two school buses currently in use by the Arlington Central School District in Dutchess County and the Valley Central School District in Ulster County. The company has also reached an agreement with West Point to provide natural gas for a new fleet of vehicles to be purchased by the U.S. Military Academy.
Central Hudson provides electric service to over 255,000 customers, serving portions of the counties of Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Ulster and Sullivan. Natural gas service is provided to sections of Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam and Ulster.
