CENTERCORE INTRODUCES NEW PANEL-HUNG AIR FILTRATION UNIT; PROVIDES ANY OFFICE SYSTEM WITH CLEANER AIR

WAYNE, Pa., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- CenterCore, Inc. (NASDAQ: CCOR), a manufacturer of interior office furnishings and air filtration systems, today announced that it will introduce at the National Commercial Building Show at NEOCON '93, June 14 through 17 in Chicago, a new office air filter that can be clipped onto existing furniture systems to improve employees' air quality, health and productivity.
The product, called PureZone(TM), incorporates a cleanroom technology system that uses two filters, a carbon prefilter and a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. In combination, the filters are 99.97 percent efficient in removing viruses, pollen, tobacco smoke, and other harmful material from the breathing zone of office workers. CenterCore currently is market-testing PureZone and expects to initiate a full product launch by late summer.
"Today, what business owners don't know about indoor air quality can hurt their employees and their bottom lines," said George Mitchell, CenterCore's president and chief executive officer. "PureZone allows them to extend the benefits of breathing zone filtration to their workforce in an easy and cost-effective way."
Concern about indoor air quality (IAQ) is growing throughout the country because of its effect on people and businesses. The cost in terms of absenteeism and lost productivity is estimated to be in excess of $100 million, according to the American Lung Association.
PureZone is attractive as well as effective. Its streamlined cover, which was designed by a professional designer, is slotted at the top and bottom with a series of horizontal vents. The vents allow air to be drawn into the filter, cleaned, then released back down over the worker in a gentle, temperature-controlled stream, much like an "umbrella" of clean air. The unit, which is about 16 inches tall and a foot deep, is available either in panel or corner models.
PureZone was developed by Airo Clean, a CenterCore company that specializes in cleanroom technology for hospitals, businesses and industry. Airo Clean also designed CenterCore's AirFlow 2000(TM), the furniture-based air filtration system on which PureZone is based. Airflow recently was tested in an actual office building with the result that sickness absences were reduced by 55 percent and 94 percent of the occupants tested found an improvement in indoor air quality and had fewer complaints of headaches, allergy symptoms, lethargy and other sick building maladies.
CenterCore's AirFlow 2000 and PureZone are covered by U.S. patents and other U.S. and foreign patents pending.
"We think that with the tight economy, increased awareness of environmental issues, and growing concern about health and productivity of office workers, this is an excellent product for today's business environment," said Mitchell.
CenterCore, based in Wayne, is a Safeguard Scientifics (NYSE: SFE) partnership company. Founded in 1984, CenterCore has manufacturing facilities in Plainfield, N.J.; Mansfield, Ohio; Exton, Pa.; and Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
