CENTERCORE ACQUIRES AIRO CLEAN ENGINEERING INC.

WAYNE, Pa., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- CenterCore, Inc. (NASDAQ: CCOR), an interior environments company that designs and manufactures office furnishings and air filtration systems, today announced that it has acquired Airo Clean Engineering Inc., a privately held company based in Exton, Pa.
CenterCore in July announced the signing of a letter of intent to purchase Airo Clean, which designs, manufactures, installs and certifies cleanroom and air filtration components and systems.
Airo Clean will retain its name and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of CenterCore. It will continue to develop industrial and health care clean air applications as well as those that support CenterCore's line of indoor air quality products.
"Incorporating Airo Clean into CenterCore's operations is a natural fit in terms of our strategic directions, philosophies and resources," said George E. Mitchell, CenterCore's president and chief executive officer.
According to Mitchell, both companies focus their efforts on the creation of products that provide convenient and cost effective solutions to the need for bacteria-free environments.
CenterCore, formed in 1984, holds the country's only patent on a furniture-based air filtration system that incorporates a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrester) filter, such as that used in hospital operating rooms and high-tech cleanrooms.
The system was designed in consultation with Airo Clean several years ago. Its use in offices of CenterCore customers throughout the country show it to be 99.97 percent effective in removing dust and contaminants from the breathing zone of officer workers. CenterCore has documented that, as a result, they have fewer respiratory ailments, headaches and other symptoms associated with Sick Building Syndrome, a growing workplace affliction of the '90s that costs American businesses approximately $60 billion a year in absenteeism and decreased productivity, according to government reports.
Airo Clean Engineering Inc. has an 18-year history of designing high-quality pathogen-free and dust-free environments for a variety of health care, manufacturing, biomedical, and pharmaceutical corporations. Founded in 1975 by Michael Pelosi Jr., it has pioneered many new products in the cleanroom industry for such companies as IBM, AT&T, E.I. Dupont de Neimours, and Merck.
Recently, Airo Clean has focused much of its effort on the production of its patented mobile enclosed isolation units, called Bacteria Controlled Nursing Units (BCNU). The units are designed to protect health care workers by isolating the infected patient in a specialized treatment chamber that purges its enclosed volume of air from between 200 to 300 times an hour. Manufactured in a variety of models, the units are in demand by medical facilities that, with the near epidemic spread of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and tuberculosis infections, are under growing pressure to obtain bacteria- free environments as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.
"This alliance with CenterCore will provide us with the financial resources to further develop more products like the BCNU and, in turn, will allow us to lend our technical expertise to creating products for CenterCore that will bring cleanroom technology to the workplace," said Michael Pelosi III, Airo Clean's president.
CenterCore, Inc. is based in Wayne and has manufacturing facilities in Plainfield, N.J.; Mansfield, Ohio; Exton; and Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. CenterCore products are represented by a network of dealers throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
