CENTEL TO CLOSE INFORMATION SYSTEMS UNIT
CENTEL TO CLOSE INFORMATION SYSTEMS UNIT CHICAGO, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Centel Corp. (NYSE: CNT) announced
today that it will close Centel Information Systems and its subsidiary, InaComp/Centel Service Network Inc., effective March 1, 1992.
The subsidiary was formed after an agreement last March between Centel and InaComp Computer Centers Inc. by which the two companies would cooperate to provide computer service support to business customers. However, the management of Centel and InaCom Corp. (formed by the August merger of ValCom Inc. and InaComp Computer Centers) decided that, given current economic conditions, the business plan for the organization was no longer viable as originally conceived. "Centel is seeking vendors to take over exiting maintenance agreements with its customers," said Fred Wright, Centel Corp.'s vice president of corporate development. "Although our people have worked very hard to make Centel Information Systems succeed, sustained operating losses just would not allow us to continue the business." The closing will affect 205 Centel employees located in 33 states, including 86 employees located at Centel Information Systems' headquarters in Reston, Va. No InaCom employees are affected. Employee dismissals will begin December 1 and continue through March 1. -0- 11/19/91 /CONTACT: William K.
