CELTS LINE UP CADETE PAL; Burns eyes up Amaral.
Ex-Portuguese international Jorge Amaral spent two days on trial at Parkhead this week - and could sign this weekend.
The pounds 2m-rated midfield player refused a new deal with top Portuguese side Benfica after a bust-up with boss Paulo Autuori and is now out of contract.
And he is desperate to fix up a money-spinning move after failing to land a deal with Leeds United last month. He was recommended by Cadete and travelled to Scotland with the injury- hit striker this week.
Boss Tommy Burns has been impressed by the 26-year-old and is keen to strike a deal.
Celts have been rocked by injuries to Paul McStay and Phil O'Donnell, so Burns needs cover to try to halt Rangers' bid for a record-equalling ninth title in a row.
He said yesterday: "We are actively pursuing players we fancy. But you can only buy someone if they are available and want to come."
Amaral, who played beside Cadete at Sporting Lisbon before moving to Benfica, has been capped 34 times.
His agent Paulo Barbosa, who also handles Cadete, told me: "He is a very good player and a great friend of Jorge.
"At the moment he is only in Glasgow to train but he is a free agent after a disagreement with Benfica's new coach. Under the Bosman ruling, he can move without a fee. But it is too early to say where he'll go."
Mozambique-born Amaral was a teenage sensation in Portugal after starring in the World title-winning Under-19 team along with Euro 96 heroes Rui Costa and Joao Pinta.
