CELLULAR ONE MINNESOTA DISTRICT JOINS NORTH AMERICAN CELLULAR NETWORK 'CALLING PEOPLE, NOT PLACES'

MINNEAPOLIS, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellular One, owned and operated by McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCAWA), the nation's largest cellular service provider, today announced the addition of its Minnesota markets to the North American Cellular Network (NACN), giving customers effortless call and feature delivery in any NACN city across the United States.
Through the use of Cellular One's national automated call delivery system that provides an instant wireless connection, the NACN eliminates the need for long inconvenient roaming codes. Beginning today, Minnesota Cellular One customers can be reached simply by dialing their seven digit Cellular One number regardless of whether they are in Minneapolis or New York City. The NACN eliminates the need for a caller to know the location (roamer access codes) of the cellular customer he or she is calling. A customer can be reached anywhere in the network simply by dialing the seven digit telephone number.
"The creation of the NACN reinforces Cellular One's commitment to industry leadership and dedication to providing only the most advanced wireless communication products and services to our customers," said Cellular One's Minnesota District General Manager David Thaler. "People may view our development and entry into the NACN as a mere matter of convenience. But the real issue here is the personal freedom that comes from having control over time and space at your fingertips ... no longer constrained by telephone wires."
Minnesota joins McCaw NACN markets New York, Florida, the Pacific Northwest, California, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Utah. Additionally, Cantel, a national provider of cellular service in Canada, and Comcast Cellular markets Philadelphia, Princeton, Cape May, Newark, Atlantic City and Washington have joined the NACN. During the second quarter of this year, Pacific Northwest Cellular will add markets in Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and Idaho. This expansion now includes over 2.3 million subscribers and serves a population base of over 75 million. In 1993 additional cellular systems throughout the United States will join the network, further strengthening the North American coverage.
The exciting introduction of the North American Cellular Network marks the realization of Cellular One's goal of "calling people, not places."
