CEI SAYS KEEP HOLIDAYS BRIGHT AND SAFE
CLEVELAND, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Tonight's holiday lighting ceremony on Cleveland's Public Square serves as an important reminder about holiday lighting safety, said the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. The company recommends the following precautions to help prevent injuries and to keep the holidays safe and brights.
-- Before stringing lights, lay them on the floor and check all wires, plugs and sockets for damage.
-- Compare wattage of different bulbs. The lower the wattage, the cooler the bulbs. Miniature lights also use much less energy.
-- Be care not to overload circuits.
-- Avoid running electrical cords over radiators, pipes and other metal objects.
-- When leaving home, even for a short time, turn off all decorative lighting.
-- Plugs should not be disconnected from wall sockets by pulling on the cord. Grasp the plug itself and pull straight out.
-- Use only safety-approved lighting. Outdoors, use rubber gaskets and sockets and hang bulbs to protect them from the weather.
