CEI LAUNCHES 'ENERGY SAVERS PROGRAM'; CUSTOMERS CAN SAVE MONEY, HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

CLEVELAND, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company (CEI) will be able to take advantage of a dozen energy efficiency programs to help reduce their monthly electric bills, company officials announced today.
The new "Energy Savers Program" (ESP) combines both services and products designed specifically to improve energy efficiency for CEI's 750,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. The new programs represent the first phase of a three-year, $35 million commitment by CEI and its sister company, Toledo Edison -- both Centerior Energy (NYSE: CX) companies -- to help customers trim their electricity costs.
"These initiatives reinforce our commitment to provide our customers with more than just reliable electricity -- we provide value and service, too," said Lyman Phillips, CEI president. "Customers taking advantage of these programs will see lower electricity bills, and will also help contribute to a cleaner environment."
All of CEI's residential customers who sign up for ESP can receive a comprehensive home energy audit, $10 discount coupons for the purchase of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, take part in a recycling program for older, less efficient refrigerators, and receive rebates on the purchase of high efficiency heat and cool pumps. Customers with electric water heaters are eligible for a conservation program.
For CEI's customers who live in the City of Cleveland, CEI has committed to scheduling visits to 4,000 homes through its "Reduce the Use" program. Qualified employee teams will install energy efficiency devices such as electric water heater wraps, water pipe insulation, low- flow shower heads and aerators at no cost, check refrigerator seals and clean refrigerator coils, as well as offer energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs at a reduced cost.
The company also introduced six programs for commercial and industrial customers, encouraging them to install energy-efficient lighting (new installations as well as existing businesses), motors, adjustable speed drives, lighting control systems, and participate in energy efficiency audits.
The programs are a result of the company's 14-member Demand Side Management (DSM) Collaborative, which is comprised of representatives from the community, various consumer and environmental groups, and the company.
