CEI HOLDS BENEFIT COOKOUT FOR HURRICANE ANDREW VICTIMS
Hurricane Andrew relief efforts continue at the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company.
More than 130 CEI employees will attend a cookout benefiting Hurricane Andrew victims on Oct. 30 at 11:30 a.m. at the company's East 24th Street Service Center, 1651 E. 24th St., Cleveland. Each employee will pay $10 for a chicken, rib or fish dinner. One half of the proceeds will go to the Salvation Army's Hurricane Relief Fund.
"Our cookout is the brainchild of Joe Haile, a line mechanic at the company," said Charlie Gunn, manager of CEI's E. 24th Street Service Center. "He's spending his days off this week shopping for the food and will be our head chef on Friday."
CEI employees will present a check of the proceeds to the Salvation Army's Major William Carlson during the cookout.
In September, 43 CEI employees and members of Local 270 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers spent their vacations as Salvation Army volunteers in Homestead, Fla. They unloaded trucks and did various clean-up chores.
