CEDAR FAIR, L.P. REPORTS RECORD REVENUES AND NET INCOME FOR 1992

SANDUSKY, Ohio, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: FUN), a publicly traded partnership which operates three amusement/theme parks, today announced record revenues and net income for calendar year 1992.
Net revenues increased to $153 million, up 20 percent from $128 million a year ago. Net income for the year increased 19 percent to $43 million, or $1.96 per limited partner unit, from $36 million, or $1.68 per unit, in 1991. Operating results for the year include the operations of Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom for the period since its acquisition on July 21, 1992.
Richard L. Kinzel, president and chief executive officer, explained that the operating results for the year were significantly impacted by the acquisition of the Pennsylvania park. On a comparable basis, net revenues and net income for 1992 would have increased 8 percent and 13 percent, respectively, to $138 million and $41 million, or $1.90 per unit. On a combined basis, this increase resulted from a 4 percent increase in both attendance and guest per capita spending.
Cedar Point, located on Lake Erie between Cleveland and Toledo; Valleyfair near Minneapolis/St. Paul; and Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, near Allentown, Pa. concluded their operating seasons last October. Kinzel explained that virtually all of Cedar Fair's gross income is realized during its operating season from early May to early October, with the major portion historically concentrated in the peak vacation months of July and August.
"We are extremely pleased with the record results achieved for the year, particularly following a year in which a very popular new roller coaster was introduced at Cedar Point and especially given the unusually cool and wet weather, particularly on weekends, that all three parks experienced this season," Kinzel said. "Attendance at our original two parks was the second highest in the Partnership's history and totalled 4.2 million. Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom added another 600,000 to the Partnership's combined 1992 attendance for the period since its acquisition in late July. Combined in-park guest per capita spending also rose at both original parks in 1992 to a record $29.31 from $28.29 in 1991."
Continuing its strategy of providing families with the best amusement park experience possible, Kinzel noted that $18 million in capital expenditures are well underway at the Partnership's three parks for the 1993 season.
"Following the strong operating results turned in for the sixth straight year and with the addition of new attractions designed to make our parks even more exciting places to visit and re-visit, we are looking forward to another successful year in 1993 for Cedar Fair," Kinzel concluded.
