CEDAR FAIR, L.P. REPORTS IMPACT OF FLOODING ON VALLEYFAIR PARK

SANDUSKY, Ohio, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: FUN), a publicly traded partnership that operates three seasonal amusement/theme parks, today confirmed that continued rain and flooding in the upper Midwest is adversely impacting attendance at its smallest park, Valleyfair, located on the Minnesota River in Shakopee, near Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Richard L. Kinzel, president and chief executive officer, explained that while Valleyfair has remained open every day, the prolonged rains and flooding along the Minnesota River have complicated guests' access to the park due to several principal highway bridges being closed. Kinzel explained that the park itself has sustained only moderate flood damage, but has had to periodically close two of its more than 50 rides and attractions and some of its parking area due to flood waters. Only one ride remains closed today.
"It is very difficult to assess the full impact this has had on our operations and far too early to speculate on whether or not we can regain any of the attendance lost to date when the bridges reopen and things return to normal," Kinzel said. "At this midpoint of the season, however Valleyfair's attendance is off 30 percent and the Partnership's earnings could be reduced by as much as $3,000,000 as a result."
On a more positive note, Kinzel explained that the partnership's largest park, Cedar Point, located on Lake Erie between Cleveland and Detroit, is having a good season and has not been affected by the rains and flooding further west. "Snake River Falls, the world's tallest and wettest water flume ride, has been very well received by our guests and is one of our most popular new rides ever," Kinzel said.
Kinzel further explained that the partnership's third park, Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, located near Allentown, Pa., is scheduled to open its major new ride later this month. "White Water Landing is the twin to Snake River Falls, and judging from the response we've had at Cedar Point, I feel very confident that this ride will give Dorney Park a nice boost in attendance for the latter part of the season," concluded Kinzel.
