CECIL M. CHOPIN NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF TEXACO'S MIDDLE EAST/FAR EAST DIVISION

 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Cecil M. Chopin, General Manager of Texaco's Exploration and Production Technology Department (EPTD) in Houston, has been appointed Senior Vice President of the Middle East/Far East (ME/FE) Division of Texaco Inc. (NYSE: TX), it was announced today by Division President Dr. William P. Doyle.
 Dr. Chopin was named to his current position in 1990 when Texaco consolidated its upstream research activities to create the Exploration and Production Technology Department of Texaco Inc. During Dr. Chopin's leadership, the Texaco EPTD laboratories developed new techniques to support expanded horizontal drilling operations in a variety of reservoir conditions and implemented field use of advanced satellite imaging. EPTD is charged with providing the highest-quality technology to company operations worldwide as these units explore for, develop and produce oil and gas resources.
 Dr. Doyle noted: "Cecil Chopin's leadership, technical strengths and international experience will further advance the ME/FE division in our drive to implement our strategies for the burgeoning opportunities throughout nations in Asia and the Pacific Rim."
 One of the company's three international divisions, ME/FE is responsible for exploration and production activities in the Middle East and Far East, including North Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia.
 Dr. Chopin, 52, was graduated from Northwestern Louisiana State University in 1964 with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Louisiana State University in 1972.
 After teaching college chemistry for three years, Dr. Chopin joined Getty Oil Company in 1975, where he held various positions at its research center in Houston. Upon Getty's merger with Texaco in 1984, he was named Manager of the Production Research Department in Texaco's Exploration and Production Technology Division. He was appointed Manager of the division's Operations Technology Department in 1986, and Director of the division in 1989.
