CDWP okays Rs218b projects.

Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has allowed ECNEC to construct a motorway as part of western route of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Rs129.78bn motorway is to be constructed from Halka Burhan on M-1 to Dera Ismail Khan. It is among 7 projects (cost Rs203.48bn) approved in a CDWP meeting chaired by Engr. Ahsan Iqbal, Planning and Development Minister.

About the motorway, Ahsan Iqbal said the western portion was being built as per May 2015 decisions. Approved and recommended projects are about energy, water resource, transport and communication, physical planning and housing, higher education, governance, planning, development and reform sectors. Approved energy sector projects include:

(1). Golan Gol Hydro Power (cost Rs28.40bn). It needs foreign exchange (FE) worth Rs10.04bn.

(2). 500kV Islamabad West project (cost Rs3.621bn).

(3). 30.4MW Jagran-I (cost Rs4.646bn) with FE worth Rs2.392bn.

(4). Installation of 'Ship Lift and Transfer System', associated machinery and equipment to provide docking facilities to ships, submarines and commercial vessels with 7,781 tons net lifting capacity (cost Rs. 9.819hn).

(5). Bridge over Indus, connecting Larkana and Khairpur districts, approach road and river training works (cost Rs13.79bn).

(6). 35km Musa Khail Tounsa Road to link with Zhob (cost Rs. 2.99bn).

(7). Feasibility study for constructing breakwater at eastern end of Jabel-e- Nuh (cost Rs300 million).

(8). Development in district Tor Ghar (cost Rs319.46m) and in

(9). Mansehra district (cost Rs925.73m).

(10). Strengthening of research and academic facilities at Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad (cost Rs1.541bn) with FE component of Rs633m.

(11). Strengthening of academic research at Bahria University, Islamabad and Karachi (cost Rs1.52bn) with Rs237m FE component.

(12). Up-grading facilities at IBA, Sukkur (cost Rs913.15m) with Rs64m FE.

(13). Establishing 'Smart School', (cost Rs238m) as part of 'Vision-2025'

(14). Up-grading ICT high schools (cost Rs465.268m).

(15). Phase II of Raghagan Dam in Bajaur Agency (cost Rs423.98m).

(16). Construction of Bada Dam in Swabi (cost Rs1.180bn);

(17). Small dams in Khaligabad, district Balochistan (cost Rs300m).

(18). Construction of judicial and administration complex, Islamabad (cost Rs708.53m).

(19). Support project for Sustainable Development Goals (cost Rs600m) with FE component of Rs300m.

(20). Up-grading 'Jawad Azfar Computer Centre' at M/o Planning, Development and Reforms (cost Rs386.32m).

(21). Cluster Development Based Industrial Transformation Plan (cost Rs1bn) and

(22). Cluster Development Based Mineral Sector Transformation (cost Rs500m).

(23). Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at M/o Planning, Development and Reforms (cost Rs128.40m).

(24). PPMI Centre of Excellence (cost Rs100m) besides Urban Planning and Policy Centre.
