CD REVIEWS: PICK OF THE WEEK; THE DELAYS You See Colours (Rough Trade).
THEIR debut album sparked four hit singles, and the sophomore set from the Southampton pop-rockers is bursting with commercial chart appeal. Frontman Greg Gilbert's unique vocal - part Cocteau Twin falsetto and part throaty rasp - soars over a set of indie pop driven by synth and guitar, with irresistible Valentine one of the dance floor singles of the year, an unlikely mix of Donna Summer and The Kooks. Elsewhere, Out Of Nowhere re-affirms the band's rock credentials, and Winter's Memory Of Summer is gentler fare, boasting the harmonies evident on the first outing. Catch them live at Brum's Carling Academy tonight. PC
