CC&C RECYCLING ACQUIRED BY WEYERHAEUSER CO., ONE OF NATION'S FIRST AND LARGEST RECYCLERS

DES MOINES, Iowa, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- CC&C Recycling and Weyerhaeuser Co. (NYSE: WY) announced today Weyerhaeuser has purchased the Des Moines-based recycler of corrugated cartons, office wastepaper and newsprint.
Weyerhaeuser is one of the nation's largest forest products companies with annual sales in 1992 of $9.2 billion. The company is one of the largest and first recyclers in the United States, and will celebrate its 20th year in the recycling business in 1994. It will collect approximately two million tons of various grades of wastepaper and corrugated cartons this year, enough to fill more than 34,000 railroad box cars. The company plans to collect twice that amount by 1997.
The acquisition of CC&C Recycling brings to 21 the number of recycling collection centers Weyerhaeuser operates nationwide.
"This is an important opportunity for us for a number of reasons," Weyerhaeuser Recycling Division Vice President Jay Phillips said. "Iowa is increasingly an important strategic base for us and this gives us the opportunity to build strong partnerships with the state of Iowa, city of Des Moines and suppliers and other customers," he said.
"Our goals are the same as the city of Des Moines and the state of Iowa. We want to get paper out of the wastestream and landfills and put it where it does some good, as recycled fiber in a number of paper products," Phillips said.
"CC&C is one of the best in the business in Iowa and has a reputation for quality, service and dependability. The more we looked at CC&C, the more we like the people, the approach and the operation," Phillips said.
Mick Barry, CC&C president, said Weyerhaeuser's experience and quality orientation will serve Des Moines area customers well. "Weyerhaeuser knows the recycling business better than anyone. Our customers couldn't ask for a better company to continue to serve them," he said. "They see Iowa as an important base of operations and they will see that their customers are well-served."
