CBOE TO LIST LEAPS ON TELEFONOS DE MEXICO, HOMESTAKE MINING CO.
CHICAGO, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) on Monday, Oct. 19, will list LEAPS(R) (Long-term Equity AnticiPation Securities(R)) on its first foreign-based equity option, Telefonos de Mexico (ticker symbol TMX), and on Homestake Mining Co. (HM).
For Telefonos de Mexico, the expirations are January 1994 (ticker symbol WTE) and January 1995 (VTE); and each expiration will have initial strike prices of 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55. LETCO is the Designated Primary Market Maker (DPM) for the options and LEAPS at CBOE.
Telefonos de Mexico options year-to-date in 1992 averaged more than 9,600 contracts per day at CBOE, making TMX the second most actively traded equity option in the industry after IBM.
Options on Telefonos de Mexico were multiply listed in September 1991 by five U.S. exchanges: CBOE and the Pacific, Philadelphia, American and New York Stock exchanges. Currently, of the four exchanges that list TMX options, CBOE has more than 76 percent of the customer market share, making CBOE the primary market.
For Homestake Mining Co., the expirations are January 1994 (ticker symbol WHM) and January 1995 (VHM); and each expiration will have initial strike prices of 10, 12-1/2 and 15.
Options on Homestake Mining Co., listed in March 1975, ranked in the top 50 of CBOE's most active equity options last month.
The two additional LEAPS will bring to 39 the total number of equities on which CBOE lists long-term options. Introduced in October 1990, equity LEAPS trade in units of 100 shares of stock per contract, are American-style exercise and settle in stock. Trading hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. Chicago time.
In addition, CBOE lists OEX LEAPS and SPX LEAPS, long-term options based on 1/10th the value of the S&P 100 and S&P 500 stock indexes, respectively.
CBOE, regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is the pioneer of listed options and the world's largest options marketplace.
