CBOE SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH IN EXCHANGE-WIDE OPEN INTEREST

 CHICAGO, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) today announced that exchange-wide open interest exceeded 10 million contracts (10,169,344 contracts) on Nov. 17, the highest open interest level in the exchange's 20-year history.
 The previous exchange-wide open interest record, set in September 1987, was 8.1 million contracts.
 "The expanded usage of options as risk management tools by both retail and institutional investors has fueled the growth of CBOE- listed options to unprecedented levels," said CBOE Chairman Duke Chapman. "An increasing number of investors are recognizing the value of versatility that options provide. CBOE remains committed to options education and continues to lead the industry in the development of new and innovative products to address the changing needs of investors."
 CBOE accounts for 60 percent of the total options market share in the U.S., and 93 percent of the U.S. index options market share.
 CBOE lists options on the S&P 100 and S&P 500 stock indices; the Russell 2000(R) (the industry benchmark for small capitalization stocks); the FT-SE 100 (the U.K. equity index benchmark); nine sector indices; interest rates; and options on more than 500 equities.
 CBOE, regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, is the pioneer of listed options and the world's largest options marketplace. The exchange is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
