CBH - CBH Group awards $150,000 for grass roots groups -- 10/5/2019.
In March, the program accepted submissions for the first of two funding rounds for 2019, receiving a bumper number of applications from schools, sporting groups, event organisers, healthcare facilities among others.
CBH General Manager Grower and External Relations Brianna Peake said the grants program was going from strength to strength and continued to play an important role in supporting regional organisations.
"The Grass Roots Fund is a significant element of our Community Investment program, which this year will see more than $1.6 million invested in partnerships, events and activities in our regional communities," Ms Peake said.
"It was a hard choice for our Grants Committee to select the successful applications this round out of so many worthy submissions, but we know those that have been awarded funding will make a big difference to enhancing locally-run community services and events."
Successful applicant Walkaway Tennis Club received a $5,000 grant to resurface their five tennis courts.
Walkaway grower, Shiree Hamersley applied for the grant on behalf of the club. "We're a farming town and tennis has been a part of Walkaway for as long as we can remember. During the season, all five courts are busy, and with the CBH grant we will fix up the deteriorating 15-year old courts so they can continue to be put to full use." Mrs Hamersley said.
The Lions Cancer Institute provides free skin cancer screenings across regional Western Australia, with two out of three people in Australia being treated for skin cancer by the time they are 70.
Their successful application for a $5,000 grant will enable the Institute to continue offering remote communities skin checks by qualified dermatologists.
In Kulin, the 30-year old quadrangle at Kulin District High School will receive an upgrade thanks to a successful $9,000 grant. The Kulin P&C Association has been fundraising their three-stage redevelopment project since 2017 and will now be able to commence upgrade works.
The next application round for Grass Roots Fund will open in August 2019.
