CATHETER MEETS ITS MATCH

 CATHETER MEETS ITS MATCH
SEATTLE, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Millions of Americans struggling

with incontinence and bladder dysfunction may be assisted by using a small, portable ultrasound device. The BladderScan(TM) non-invasively measures bladder volume by using sound waves as they reflect off the bladder wall. The device is about 1/3 the size of a briefcase and is easily operated by nurses and patients alike.
"We are creating a mindshift," claimed Roger Sahm, M.D., director of clinical affairs at Diagnostic Ultrasound Corp. "Cathing solely to heck urine volume is obsolete in most cases. Children and the frail elderly are especially traumatized by catheters."
The instrument is also used for bladder training, verifying empty bladder, fluid management and measuring post void residual.
The dangerous chance of urinary tract infections (UTIs) is also minimized with the BladderScan, because germs are not introduced into the bladder. "If left untreated or mismanaged, UTIs can be disabling and sometimes fatal. This is a $1-billion annual expense to treat!" Sahm added.
The BladderScan BVI 2500 has gained market clearance and is becoming the gold standard of care for non-invasive bladder volume.
