CATALYTIC EXTRACTION PROCESSING RECOGNIZED AS INNOVATIVE RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY; MOLTEN METAL RECEIVES PRECEDENT-SETTING RECYCLING PERMIT

FALL RIVER, Mass., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Molten Metal Technology (NASDAQ: MLTN) announced today the receipt of its Recycling-R&D Permit for the company's state-of-the-art Recycling-Research and Development (R&D) Facility from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MADEP). This permit enables the company to perform commercial-scale recycling demonstrations of Catalytic Extraction Processing (CEP), Molten Metal Technology's breakthrough technology for recycling hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Molten Metal Technology is the first company in Massachusetts to receive a permit to demonstrate the recyclability of a broad spectrum of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
The MADEP and Molten Metal Technology worked collaboratively to develop a comprehensive permit structure to allow for demonstration of CEP and its ability to recycle a wide array of hazardous wastes. The permitting framework enables CEP's unique recycling capabilities to be demonstrated for commercial applications, while assuring the highest environmental integrity. The state-of-the-art Recycling-R&D Facility, located in Fall River, Mass., houses seven CEP systems, the largest of which is a commercial-scale prototype capable of recycling up to two tons of waste per hour.
Commenting on the significance of Molten Metal Technology and its Recycling-R&D Facility for Massachusetts, Governor William F. Weld remarked "Molten Metal Technology is finding a productive economic solution to some of the toughest environmental issues that society faces. This remarkable accomplishment is bringing jobs to Fall River while proving once again that Massachusetts is light years ahead of the competition in terms of environmental technology."
Additionally, the Texas Water Commission, the agency responsible for oversight of Texas-based hazardous waste operations, recently designated CEP as an innovative technology, indicating its commitment to prioritize permit review of CEP facilities in Texas. With its large chemical and petro chemical industry, Texas represents one of the largest hazardous waste markets and is a potential locations for a number of CEP facilities.
Molten Metal Technology (NASDAQ: MLTN) is an environmental technology company commercializing a breakthrough proprietary recycling and pollution prevention technology known as Catalytic Extraction Processing (CEP). CEP uses a molten metal bath to make valuable products from wastes. Broadly applicable to a wide variety of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, CEP has the potential to eliminate the world's dependence on landfilling and incineration.
