CATALINA LIGHTING ENTERS CANADIAN MARKET VIA JOINT VENTURE
MIAMI, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Catalina Lighting, Inc. (AMEX: LTG) today announced that it has entered into a joint venture with O'Design Ceramic, Inc. to distribute Catalina's lighting fixtures and lamps throughout the Canadian market.
O'Design is a Montreal-based manufacturer and distributor of ceramic lamps and related products sold principally in the Canadian market. Catalina will own a majority interest in the joint venture known as Catalina Lighting Canada.
"We are extremely pleased to align ourselves with O'Design Ceramic, which has strong relationships with national and regional retailers all across Canada," noted Robert Hersh, Catalina's chairman and chief executive officer. "Access to such accounts should accelerate our penetration of the Canadian market, and we expect the joint venture to generate sales of several million dollars during calendar 1992. The venture's customer base already includes such giants as Woolco and Club Price in Canada. We also intend to introduce O'Design ceramic lamps to our customers in the United States through an exclusive distribution agreement."
Danny Lavy, president of O'Design and the new joint venture, brings years of experience in the lamp industry along with numerous connections in the Canadian market. "I see no end to the potential for Catalina in Canada with their high quality and affordable prices. Catalina's distribution into the U.S. home centers will also quickly blanket the U.S. market with many unique styles of our O'Design lamps," commented Lavy.
Catalina Lighting, Inc. is a premier supplier of high quality, affordably priced residential and office lighting products, which are imported from independent suppliers in the Far East and Europe. The company, which is headquartered in Miami, recently reported sales of $88.1 million for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1991.
Catalina shares are traded on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol "LTG."
