CASE WESTERN RESERVE FINANCIAL AID

 CASE WESTERN RESERVE FINANCIAL AID
CLEVELAND, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- While tuition may be on the rise,

providing financial aid remains a priority at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU).
"CWRU is increasing its commitment to scholarship and grant programs," according to Donald Chenelle, the university's director of financial aid.
Tuition will be $14,500 for the 1992/93 academic year for students in undergraduate and graduate programs, an increase of 6.6 percent.
Undergraduate tuition at CWRU is traditionally among the lowest of 35 comparable private research universities across the nation, ranging from a high of more than $17,000 to a low of just over $8,000. Among this group in 1991/92, only three schools had lower rates than CWRU's.
From 85 to 90 percent of all undergraduates at CWRU receive some type of financial aid. This year's financial aid commitment totaled $79 million with $29.3 million of the total going to undergraduates.
"We are making every attempt to continue to be able to provide sufficient aid to students to try to arrange packages in such a way that we will meet need," Chenelle said.
Case Western Reserve is providing more than $3 million to 205 President's and 120 Provost's Scholars awarded to incoming students on the basis of their high school class rank and achievement test performance.
In setting tuition rates, university officials listed priorities such as meeting rising prices for library holdings, the growing campus computer network (the only all fiber optic computer network on any campus in the country), strengthening faculty salaries and higher utility rates -- all while faced with a smaller pool of traditional college-aged students.
Case Western Reserve University is the largest private research university in Ohio with more than $107 million in support of research and other sponsored projects. CWRU enrolls 8,758 students representing every state and 80 nations.
