CASCADE MEDICAL ROLLS OUT CHECKMATE PLUS SYSTEM; NEW DESIGN BRINGS THE ULTIMATE IN SIMPLICITY TO BLOOD GLUCOSE MONITORS

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cascade Medical, Eden Prairie, Minn., today introduced the CheckMate Plus(R) Blood Glucose Monitoring system at the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) convention in Atlanta. The new system incorporates many innovations, providing diabetics with a state-of-the-art glucose monitor that is extremely simple to operate with many convenience, memory and safety features.
Advanced features of CheckMate Plus include an easy-to-read display that provides word prompts in six languages and 255 memory entries that automatically store glucose results with time, date and activity markers attached. CheckMate Plus has the unique capability of allowing the diabetic to store insulin data in memory with time and date. A data port provides the capability of data off-loading to personal computers and other peripheral devices. CheckMate Plus, like CheckMate(R), is the only monitor on the market with a lifetime warranty.
"We really have a breakthrough product," said Richard E. Jones, Ph.D., president and CEO of Cascade Medical. "CheckMate Plus goes further than any other blood glucose monitor in making self glucose testing easy and accurate.
"This new product comes at a great time for us," continued Jones, "because we're already gaining significant market share, even though we're a smaller company than most of our competitors. I really believe that we've designed a product that is the ultimate in simplicity and accuracy -- a product that will set a new standard for the industry."
CheckMate Plus blood glucose test strips require no wiping, blotting or timing and have an absorbent wick that provides automatic sample application and good blood containment for safe disposal. Other glucose meters require the user to calibrate the system before use by properly inserting codes or chips into the meter. The CheckMate Plus has auto- calibration -- the monitor automatically calibrates itself each time it is used.
The self-starting time eliminates the inconvenience and potential inaccuracy of timing each sample. Temperature and hematocrit are automatically corrected for more accurate readings. The exclusive built-in lancing device and hands-off lancet removal make getting blood samples easier, safer and less painful, while the safety messages immediately alert the user if the sample size is inadequate, the temperature or glucose result is out of range, the battery is low, or the test strip has been improperly inserted.
CheckMate Plus has the simplest operating procedure available -- just apply blood and read the result. User-friendly word prompts guide the user through all procedures. The user can also take advantage of unique features like the four alarm settings that, when combined with the extensive glucose/insulin memories, make it easier for the lay diabetic to follow the recently announced Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) guidelines for diabetes management.
The sleek, futuristic appearance of the monitor and high-impact packaging graphics were developed by the industrial design firm Worrell Design of Minneapolis. The new design elements reflect the high quality and technological sophistication of the product, clearly setting it apart from the competition.
