CARTER HAWLEY HALE REPORTS JULY SALES DECREASED 3.2 PERCENT; SAME STORE SALES DECREASED 0.7 PERCENT

 LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc. (NYSE: CHH) today reported that sales for the four weeks ended July 31, 1993, were $130.1 million, a 3.2 percent decrease compared with the $134.4 million reported in last year's period. On a comparable stores basis, sales decreased 0.7 percent for the month.
 For the 26 weeks ended July 31, 1993, sales were $917.3 million, an increase of 0.3 percent compared with the $915.0 million reported in last year's period. On a comparable stores basis, sales increased 3.1 percent for the period.
 Carter Hawley Hale operated four additional stores in July of last year.
