 OF DISNEY WORLDWIDE THEME PARK FUNCTIONS
 BURBANK, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Farris E. (Eddie) Carpenter and Thomas R. Elrod were promoted today to new high-level positions in Walt Disney Attractions, the division of The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) responsible for the worldwide operation of Disney's theme parks and resorts.
 Carpenter, senior vice president, finance and business planning, and chief financial officer, Walt Disney Attractions, will become president, Disneyland International and chief financial officer, Walt Disney Attractions.
 Elrod, currently senior vice president of marketing, Walt Disney Attractions, will become president, marketing and entertainment, Walt Disney Attractions.
 Carpenter and Elrod will continue to report to Judson C. Green, president of Walt Disney Attractions.
 In announcing the promotions, Green said: "Eddie Carpenter has led the domestic Attractions financial and business planning team since 1987, providing outstanding direction for our operations. Tom Elrod has driven the creative marketing campaigns that have made Disney theme parks the most popular and well-known resort destinations in the world. They will be our chief advisers and strategists in the growth of our domestic and international Attractions business segment."
 In a joint statement, Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Eisner and President and Chief Operating Officer Frank G. Wells said, "These two promotions reflect the widening reach and the growing importance of our Attractions division as we broaden and enhance our worldwide operations. Eddie and Tom are proven leaders whose wisdom and energies will carry us forward as we continue to grow."
 Carpenter was a key member of Disney's financial negotiating team working with the French government on the creation of the Euro Disney Resort, which opened in April outside Paris.
 In his new position, Carpenter will direct the efforts of the financial and business planning teams at all Disney theme park sites as well as focus on Disney's international endeavors.
 Elrod has been responsible for marketing, advertising and promotional programs at Walt Disney World, Florida, Disneyland in California, Tokyo Disneyland and Euro Disney. He was also responsible for developing the major Grand Opening marketing campaign and media event which supported the successful debut of the Euro Disney Resort.
 In his new role, Elrod assumes the added responsibility for creative leadership of all entertainment concepts at the Disney theme parks, including the signature spectaculars that have become a Disney trademark.
 Carpenter, who joined the Walt Disney World Co. in 1971 in Accounting, has held numerous financial positions throughout his Disney career. A native of Eustis, Fla., he was graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Accounting. He is a CPA and a member of the Florida Institute of CPAs as well as the Financial Executives Institute.
 He is a member of the board of directors and the executive committee of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce and is a past member of the board of directors of the Better Business Bureau of Central Florida.
 Elrod, a former television newsman and public relations director for the Amateur Athletic Union, joined the Disney organization in 1973 in Advertising and Promotions at Walt Disney World.
 Born in Chicago, Elrod holds a bachelor of science degree from Butler University, where he now serves on the Board of Trustees. He also serves on the board of directors of the Travel Industry of America and of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.
