 CAROLINA POWER & LIGHT NAMES PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
 RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- William Cavanaugh III, a senior executive with Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR), has been named president and chief operating officer of Carolina Power & Light (NYSE: CPL). He will assume his new position Sept. 1, 1992.
 Cavanaugh, 53, has held a variety of management and executive positions during a 23-year career with Entergy, an electric utility holding company with operations in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Currently, he is group president, energy supply, as well as chairman of Entergy Operations, Inc., the nuclear operating subsidiary of Entergy. Previously, he has held executive positions at each of Entergy's three electric utility subsidiaries, including service as president of Mississippi Power and Light Co.
 "Bill Cavanaugh brings to CP&L a wealth of broad-based electric utility experience, especially in all phases of nuclear operations," said Sherwood H. Smith, Jr., CP&L's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "He will be a splendid addition to the CP&L team as we meet the opportunities and challenges of the future." Smith will remain CP&L's chairman and chief executive officer.
 Cavanaugh is a graduate of Tulane University and served eight years in the U.S. Navy's nuclear program before joining Arkansas Power & Light Co. in 1969. He serves as a member of the boards of directors of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, the World Association of Nuclear Operators and the Southeastern Electric Exchange. He also serves on the advisory board of the Tulane University School of Engineering.
