CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES TO LAUNCH LATIN MARKET CRUISES

MIAMI, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Cruise Lines, Inc. (NYSE: CCL) today announced plans to create a new cruise line, FiestaMarina Cruises, aimed specifically at the Latin market.
The new line is scheduled to begin service this October offering seven-day cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and La Guaira, (Caracas) Venezuela, with three- and four-day fly/cruise segments also available from both cities. The company will initially feature one ship, the FiestaMarina, which currently operates cruises as Carnival's Carnivale from Port Canaveral, Fla., to the Bahamas.
Bob Dickinson, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Carnival said the line expects to draw most heavily from Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and other Central and South American countries, as well as Spain. Additional focus will be on U.S. markets with large Hispanic populations such as Florida, Texas, New York and California. Dickinson said that no other cruise line specifically targets the Latin mass market. "Based on the very positive Latin response to Carnival's ships, which cater primarily to Americans, we believe a product designed specifically for Latins will be tremendously popular," he said.
FiestaMarina will cater to U.S. Hispanics and Latin Americans. All on-board communication will be in Spanish while dining, entertainment and facilities will reflect a Latin flavor. The line will feature a large social staff to conduct activities and encourage participation.
Seven-day round trip cruises will depart every Monday from La Guaira and every Friday from San Juan with three-day fly/cruise segments departing La Guaira and San Juan on Fridays and four-day fly/cruise segments departing La Guaira and San Juan on Mondays. Prices will be competitive with Carnival's other three, four and seven-day cruise products.
The three- and four-day itinerary vacated by the Carnivale will be picked up by Carnival's SuperLiner Fantasy which will be repositioned from Miami on Oct. 10, 1993. The Ecstasy, presently on an alternating seven-day eastern and western Caribbean schedule, will pick up the Fantasy's three- and four-day Bahamas route from Miami departing Fridays and Mondays. That service will begin Nov. 8, 1993. Carnival's new Sensation is slated to take over the Ecstasy's seven-day Caribbean itineraries from Miami beginning Nov. 21, 1993.
Carnival is the world's largest cruise line based on number of passengers carried. Together with its affiliated cruise lines, Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line, it operates 19 ships in the Caribbean, Alaska and other worldwide destinations. Carnival has contracted for the construction of three 2,600-passenger ships, the Sensation, Fascination and Imagination, which are scheduled for delivery in 1993, 1994 and 1995, respectively. It recently signed a contract for another, which at approximately 95,000 gross-registered tons will be the largest passenger ship ever built. That as yet unnamed vessel is scheduled for delivery in late 1996. It also has contracted three new ships for Holland America Line. The first of these, the Statendam, begins service next week, with the Maasdam and Ryndam to be delivered in late 1993 and 1994, respectively.
