CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES REPORTS RECORD 1992 REVENUES AND EARNINGS

MIAMI, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Cruise Lines, Inc. (NYSE: CCL) reported income from continuing operations for the fourth quarter ended Nov. 30, 1992 of $43.1 million ($0.31 per share) on revenues of $311 million compared to income from continuing operations of $38.7 million ($0.28 per share) on revenues of $305.6 million for the same period in 1991.
For the fiscal year ended Nov. 30, 1992, income from continuing operations was $281.8 million ($2.00 per share) on revenues of $1.47 billion compared to income from continuing operations of $253.8 million ($1.85 per share) on revenues of $1.40 billion for the same period in 1991. The revenue increases for the year were primarily attributed to additional capacity provided by Carnival's SuperLiner Ecstasy which entered service in June 1991.
"In light of the difficult economy the travel industry has had to contend with in 1992, together with significant increase in cruise industry capacity during the year, we are very happy with our year end results," said Carnival Chairman and CEO Micky Arison.
For the fiscal year ended Nov. 30, 1992, the company achieved an average occupancy level of 105.3 percent carrying 1,153,073 passengers compared to 1,099,520 for an average occupancy level of 105.7 percent during fiscal 1991. The increase in passenger counts was attributed to the six additional months of service for Carnival's Ecstasy in 1992 compared to 1991. For the fourth quarter ended November 30, 1992, the company achieved an average occupancy level of 100.6 percent compared to 101.0 percent for the fourth quarter of 1991.
Carnival is the world's largest cruise line based on number of passengers carried. Together with its affiliated cruise lines, Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line, it operates 18 ships in the Caribbean, Alaska and other worldwide destinations. Carnival has contracted for the construction of three 2,600-passenger ships, the Sensation, Fascination and Imagination, which are scheduled for delivery in 1993, 1994 and 1995, respectively. It also has contracted to construct three new ships for Holland America Line. The first of these, the Statendam, has been delivered and is scheduled to begin service late this month, with the Maasdam and Ryndam to be delivered in late 1993 and 1994, respectively.
