CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES CONTRACTS FOR WORLD'S LARGEST CRUISE SHIP

MIAMI, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Cruise Lines, Inc. (NYSE: CCL) announced it has signed a contract with the Italian shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. for the construction of the largest passenger cruise ship ever built. Approximately 95,000-gross-registered-tons, the vessel will feature 1,300-plus cabins. The per berth price of the new ship will be competitive with Carnival's other current new ship constructions. Delivery is scheduled for late 1996. Citibank N.A. served as financial advisor to both Carnival and Fincantieri in this transaction.
"We are extremely impressed with Fincantieri's present work on the three new ships for our subsidiary Holland America Line," said Micky Arison, chairman and CEO for Carnival Cruise Lines. "The first of these, the MS Statendam, has just been delivered and already is being described in early media reports as one of the most elegant and beautiful ships ever built," he said.
Added Corrado Antonini, managing director, Fincantieri, "The Fincantieri organization is very excited to be continuing our relationship with Carnival and to be a part of this historic new project."
Carnival is the world's largest cruise line based on number of passengers carried. Together with its affiliated cruise lines, Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line, it operates 18 ships in the Caribbean, Alaska and other worldwide destinations. Carnival has contracted for the construction of three 2,600-passenger ships, the Sensation, Fascination and Imagination, which are scheduled for delivery in 1993, 1994 and 1995, respectively. It also has contracted to construct three new ships for Holland America Line. The first of these, the Statendam, has been delivered and is scheduled to begin service late this month, with the Maasdam and Ryndam to be delivered in late 1993 and 1994, respectively.
