 CARLSON NAMED VICE CHAIRMAN OF CENTERBANK
 WATERBURY, Conn., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert J. Narkis has


announced that Joseph Carlson II, treasurer and chief financial officer at Centerbank (NASDAQ: CTBX), has been named vice chairman. In this position, Carlson is responsible for the bank's financial services division, computer services division, investment management division, management services division and corporate communications. Carlson joined Centerbank in February 1990 following a career which began in 1966 at Colonial Bank and continued through increasingly responsible assignments in finance and administration with Bank of Boston.
 "Joe Carlson's leadership and creativity have made our recent acquisitions in Meriden and New Haven a model for the banking industry," stated Narkis. "In his new position at the bank, I expect that Joe will continue this extraordinary record and make further contributions to the success of the bank."
 A graduate of Colgate University with a bachelor of arts degree in political science, he holds an MBA in information systems from the University of Hartford. A vice president of the non-profit Naugatuck Valley Development Corporation, he has also served as chairman of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce and is currently a member of the board of directors of St. Mary's Hospital, The Waterbury Foundation, and the Naugatuck High School Scholarship Committee. He is a trustee of the Waterbury YMCA and serves on the board of the United Way of Central Naugatuck Valley.
 Carlson resides in Naugatuck with his wife Rosanne and their family.
