CARLISLE PLASTICS SUCCESSFULLY INITIATES PRICE INCREASES
BOSTON, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Carlisle Plastics, Inc., (NYSE: CPA) announced today that it has successfully initiated modest price increases in certain areas of its trash bag business which had been impacted by previously disclosed price deterioration. Average pricing for trash bags, the company's largest business, was higher in August than in July.
The company also announced that it had successfully implemented price increases in its institutional and sheeting businesses and expects its Film Products Group to ship record unit volume in the current quarter. The company is continuing to experience sharp increases in unit sales and is gaining market share across almost all lines of its film and molded products businesses.
A spokesperson for the company commented that it is revising its previous earnings estimate of 25 cents per share to a range encompassing a loss or a modest gain for the year. Management believes that it is not possible to make a more precise forecast because of the current uncertainties in the plastic trash bag market. The earnings outlook was also impacted by PHAR-MOR's bankruptcy filing, increases in raw material prices, and significant non-recurring expenses related to the introduction of its new line of environmentally attractive trash bags.
Management noted that the company has substantial cash reserves, with no significant principal payments due on its debt until 1997 and only a modest level of capital investment needed in 1993 and 1994, since the company has completed its major capital investment program.
Carlisle Plastics, Inc., manufactures, sells and develops consumer and consumer-related commercial plastic products, including its Ruffies brand and private-label trash bags, garment hangers, and containers for milk and water.
