CARLA HILLS TO JOIN AT&T BOARD OF DIRECTORS

BOSTON, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ambassador Carla A. Hills, chairman and chief executive officer of Hills & Company, International Consultants, and former U.S. Trade Representative, has agreed to join the board of directors of AT&T (NYSE: T), it was announced today at the AT&T shareowners meeting here.
Her firm advises businesses on investment, trade and risk assessment issues abroad.
AT&T Chairman Robert E. Allen said Ambassador Hills will be elected to the board at its May 19 meeting.
In addition to serving as U.S. Trade Representative from 1989 until January of this year, Ambassador Hills also served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Ford Administration and held a number of posts on Presidential commissions during the 1980's.
She is a former Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division, U.S. Department of Justice, and co-founder of the Los Angeles law firm of Munger, Tolles & Hills.
Ambassador Hills, 59, holds an A.B. degree from Stanford University and an L.L.B. degree from Yale University.
She is a director of Bechtel Group, Inc., and Chevron Corporation and has been nominated to the boards of American International Group, Inc., Time Warner Inc. and United Airlines.
Ambassador Hills' election will bring the number of AT&T board members to 15, following the resignations last month of Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., who became chairman and chief executive officer of IBM Corp., and Gilbert P. Williamson, who retired as chairman and chief executive officer of NCR Corporation, a subsidiary of AT&T.
