THORNWOOD, N.Y., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Carl Zeiss, Inc., a leading manufacturer and distributor of precision optical products, today announced it has completed its acquisition of the Humphrey instruments division of Allergan, Inc. (NYSE: AGN). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Humphrey, Inc. will operate as a subsidiary of Carl Zeiss, Inc., and will continue to manufacture and market its well-known line of ophthalmic diagnostic instruments from its facilities in San Leandro, Calif.
According to Dieter Blennemann, president of Carl Zeiss, Inc., Humphrey also will become the marketing and sales organization for Zeiss ophthalmic diagnostic products.
"Both Humphrey and Zeiss have earned worldwide reputations among ophthalmologists as quality product leaders," Blennemann said. "By combining the two organizations, we expect to enhance our technical leadership and provide the medical profession with unmatched customer support and service."
Field analyzers used to assess the visual fields of glaucoma patients, auto refractors, lens analyzers and a new ultrasound imaging instrument are some of the microprocessor-based diagnostic and monitoring equipment manufactured and sold by Humphrey. Among the Zeiss products which Humphrey will market are slip lamps, fundus cameras, ophthalmoscopes and ophthalmic lasers.
