CARL THOMPSON ASSOCIATES WINS PRSA SILVER ANVIL FOR IR

BOULDER, Colo., April 6 /PRNewswire -- Carl Thompson Associates, one of the leading investor relations firms in the country, has won the prestigious Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for producing the best investor relations program for the large company category (more than $500 million in sales).
The award was for Carl Thompson Associates' investor relations work on the spin-off of ACX Technologies Inc. from the Adolph Coors Co. last year.
The agency's entry was selected by a panel of judges in New York during the last week of March. There were a total of 45 winners from among 444 entries. This was the first time a Colorado-based agency or company has won the Silver Anvil for the investor relations category.
"The Silver Anvil Awards are viewed as the Oscars of our business, so it's certainly an honor and a tribute to the hard work of our staff," said Carl Thompson, chief executive officer of the eight-year-old agency. "It was also especially meaningful in that this was the first year we had ever entered the PRSA Silver Anvil program."
Carl Thompson Associates' work on the spin-off involved providing counsel on investor relations strategies, identifying sell-side analysts and institutions likely to be interested in the new stock based on their investment parameters, arranging meetings with these individuals around the country, as well as with the business media and preparing various collateral materials such as a Fact Sheet, slide show, invitations, etc.
The spin-off launch of ACX Technologies has been viewed by many analysts and money managers as one of the most successful they had seen. The stock increased from $10.75 per share when it started trading in early December of last year, to $21.75 by the end of that month on heavy volume. This represented a 102 percent increase in the stock in less than a month of trading. Several positive research reports were published on the company and numerous national and regional articles appeared in various business/financial publications.
Carl Thompson was instrumental in providing investor relations counsel to U S WEST ten years ago when that company was spun-off from AT&T as part of the breakup of the Bell System. At that time he was vice president of investor relations for Hill and Knowlton, one of the largest public relations firms in the world.
The awards ceremony will take place June 9, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. Accepting for the agency will be Carl Thompson, chief executive officer, and Shirley Thompson, president.
