CARL J. YANKOWSKI NAMED PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF SONY ELECTRONICS

 PARK RIDGE, N.J., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Carl J. Yankowski has been named president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics Inc. The announcement was made today by Michael P. Schulhof, chairman of Sony Electronics and president and chief executive officer of Sony Corporation of America.

"With this strong combination of technical and brand name marketing expertise, Carl will add valuable diversity to the Sony Electronics management team in an era of expanding opportunity. His mandate will be to help Sony Electronics continue its growth both through traditional avenues and new cross marketing initiatives with Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and Sony Electronic Publishing.

 Most recently, Mr. Yankowski was Group Vice President for Polaroid Corporation's Asia/Pacific region, based in Hong Kong. He joined Polaroid in 1988 as a corporate vice president with initial responsibility for U.S. consumer and industrial marketing, and subsequent responsibility for all Business Imaging. He has 20 years of management experience in a variety of consumer products businesses, including Procter & Gamble, Pepsi-Cola, and General Electric. Mr. Yankowski graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with simultaneous degrees from the Sloan School of Management and the department of electrical engineering.
 Mr. Yankowski will report directly to Mr. Schulhof. Sony's electronics manufacturing, engineering, and research and development groups in the U.S., headed by Kuni Ando, will continue to report directly to Mr. Schulhof.
 Sony Electronics is a leader in consumer electronics, professional, audio and video products, computer peripherals and components, and recording media in the U.S. In fiscal 1992, the company's U.S. sales grew to $6.2 billion, and for the first half of the current fiscal year ended Oct. 1, 1993, electronics sales were up 14 percent from a year earlier. Sony Electronics has more than 15,000 employees at 120 facilities in 25 states and Mexico in sales, marketing, manufacturing, product design and R&D.
