CAREMARK TO MANAGE OKLAHOMA CITY CLINIC

NORTHBROOK, Ill., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Caremark International Inc. (NYSE: CK) announced today that it has entered into a long-term agreement to manage the business operations of Oklahoma City Clinic.
Under the agreement, Caremark will provide administration of patient services; facilities, financial and information management; marketing assistance; and other business functions. Caremark has also acquired certain assets of the clinic.
Oklahoma City Clinic is the largest private, multi-specialty physicians' group practice in the state, with more than 100 doctors and some 550 non-physician employees at seven sites serving an active patient population of 150,000. Many of these patients are referred through managed care organizations such as HMOs under pre-paid plans.
"Our relationship with Caremark will enable us to improve our very substantial clinical capabilities by leveraging Caremark's strengths in administration, finance and marketing," said William F. Barnes, M.D., the clinic's president. Wayne Coventon, executive director, added that "The Clinic and Caremark have a shared vision for the delivery of high quality health care services that will benefit patients and other purchasers of health care services."
In January Caremark announced that it had entered into a long-term agreement with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Houston to manage that practice's business functions. Kelsey-Seybold has some 170 physicians and 1,000 employees at 17 satellite clinics and offices throughout Houston.
"We're extremely pleased to join forces with Oklahoma City Clinic, another very high quality managed care provider," said Sam Willcoxon, president of Caremark's Physician Resources Division. "This agreement positions Caremark as a premier partner for large, high quality multi- specialty physicians groups looking to strengthen their services in the face of likely health care reforms and increased emphasis on cost containment and outcomes monitoring in a managed care environment."
Caremark International Inc. is a leading provider of alternate site health care, marketing a broad range of therapies and services to patients, physicians, providers and payors, including as a partner in managed care delivery systems. The company had 1992 sales of $1.46 billion.
