CAREMARK SELECTED BY PRUDENTIAL AS NATIONWIDE PREFERRED DRUG BENEFIT PROVIDER; MAIL SERVICE PHARMACY PROGRAM TO SERVE 24 MLN COVERED LIVES

 NORTHBROOK, Ill., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Caremark International today announced that its Prescription Service Division has been selected as the preferred mail order prescription drug provider for The Prudential Health Care System (PHCS), headquartered in Roseland, N.J. The Prudential, the nation's largest insurer, provides more than 24 million Americans with employee health benefits, in both their indemnity and managed-care plans.
 Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Caremark will offer pharmacy services by mail to individuals covered by Prudential's health care plans. The mail pharmacy program lets Prudential beneficiaries obtain prescribed maintenance medications cost effectively through direct home delivery. Maintenance medication is typically used to treat long-term or chronic conditions, such as arthritis, high blood pressure or diabetes.
 Commenting on the newly signed agreement Kris Gibney, Caremark's corporate vice president of Health Cost Management and president of the Prescription Service Division, said, "We are very pleased to have been selected as Prudential's preferred provider for mail service prescription drug benefit services. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Prudential in this important area of health cost management."
 According to Allan Zimmerman, national director of pharmacy operations for Prudential, "The addition of mail order pharmacy services for PHCS members will enable us to provide a full spectrum of pharmacy delivery systems -- in-house, retail and mail -- to our customers. Mail service prescription drug services will provide members the convenience of obtaining maintenance drugs delivered directly to their homes."
