 CARDY ELECTED CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT AND
 CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF CARPENTER TECHNOLOGY
 READING, Pa., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Carpenter Technology (NYSE: CRS) board of directors has elected Robert W. Cardy chairman, president and chief executive officer, effective July 1, the company announced today.
 Cardy had served as president and chief operating officer since September 1990.
 Cardy, 55, is a 30-year veteran of the specialty metals manufacturer. He has progressed to the top position through the sales ranks, having joined the company as a sales representative in Dayton, Ohio, before holding various sales and marketing management positions.
 Cardy was named central district manager (Indianapolis) in 1970, western district manager (Los Angeles) in 1973 and general sales manager in 1977. He became division vice president, commercial, in 1979; vice president, commercial, in 1982 and vice president, sales and marketing in 1987. Cardy was elected an executive vice president in 1989.
 He has a bachelor's of business administration degree in industrial management from the University of Cincinnati.
 Cardy succeeds Paul R. Roedel, who will retire June 30. Roedel is age 65, the mandatory retirement age for Carpenter officers. He will remain on the company's board of directors.
 Carpenter, a Fortune 500 company based in southeastern Pennsylvania, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of specialty steels and metals used in high-performance products. Its end-use markets include aerospace, motor vehicle and equipment, electrical and electronic equipment, metal producing and distribution, and general industrial equipment.
