CARBONE, PARKER NAMED GROUP VICE PRESIDENTS FOR CORE BUSINESS WITHIN THE DOW CHEMICAL COMPANY

 MIDLAND, Mich., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Group vice presidents for the Dow global core businesses have been announced by William S. Stavropoulos, soon to become president and chief operating officer of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW).
 Anthony J. Carbone, group vice president, Dow Plastics, Dow North America, has been named group vice president of the Plastics Business, and Michael D. Parker, president, Dow Pacific, has been named group vice president of both the Chemicals and Performance Products Business and the Hydrocarbons & Energy Business. They will report to Stavropoulos.

"They both have demonstrated outstanding success in technical, marketing and business management on an international scale -- experience that will serve Dow well as they focus attention on development and implementation of global strategies and allocation of resources while working closely with Area Business Management Teams to achieve competitive advantage and customer success."
 Carbone joined Dow in 1962 and held various Technical Service and Development (TS&D) assignments before becoming a group manager for TS&D in 1969. In 1970, he became product sales manager for Laminated and Coated Products and in 1972 was named a marketing manager for the same product group.
 In 1974, he joined Dow Latin America in Coral Gables as marketing director for Plastics and returned to Midland in 1976 as business manager for Styrofoam products in the Functional Products and Systems Department (FP&S). He was named director of Marketing for FP&S in 1980 and general manager of the Coatings and Resins Department in 1983.
 Carbone served as general manager of Separation Systems and chairman of the board of FilmTec, a wholly owned Dow subsidiary company, before being named a vice president in Dow Plastics, Dow U.S.A., in 1987. He became group vice president of Dow Plastics, Dow U.S.A, in 1990 and group vice president of Dow North America in 1992.
 He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Yale University and a master's degree in business administration from Central Michigan University.
 Parker joined Dow in 1968 and served in a wide variety of assignments in research, manufacturing and the commercial area. He joined Dow International at Freeport in Organics Research and Development and subsequently became a production engineer. He moved to Birmingham, England, in 1972 for a field sales position and, in 1975, was named a district sales manager.
 Parker moved to Dow Europe in 1977 as product marketing manager for Epoxy Resins. He later was named director of Marketing for Inorganic Chemicals, then for Organic Chemicals. In 1983, he was named commercial director for the Functional Products Department.
 He returned to Midland in 1984 as general manager of the Specialty Chemicals Department for Dow U.S.A. and in 1987 moved to Hong Kong as commercial vice president for Dow Pacific. He was named Area president in 1988.
 Parker holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from The University of Manchester (England) and a master's degree from the Manchester Business School.
