CAR EXHIBIT TOUTS ALL 44 MICHIGAN-ASSEMBLED CARS AND TRUCKS
DETROIT, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit-area civic and community leaders and the state's auto manufacturers are joining together to host "Wheels of Michigan," the first-ever exhibit of all 44 "Michigan-made" cars and trucks, May 1-3, 1992.
The free public outdoor showing will be held adjacent to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan headquarters on 600 Lafayette East. The event will feature special-edition vehicles, along with one of each model car which undergoes final assembly in Michigan.
The concept of "Wheels of Michigan" began as a way to stimulate car sales among Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan and other downtown Detroit employees. It has expanded into a show which sponsors hope will encourage Michigan residents to know and buy the cars and trucks designed and built by their friends and neighbors.
Sponsors also hope the exhibit will allow Michiganians to show their pride in Michigan-made products, while allowing auto manufacturers to display their vehicles.
"We believe this project is a unique way to show our pride in the products built by our customers," said Richard E. Whitmer, president and CEO of the Blues.
Among other exhibition supporters are the Blues, WDIV-TV 4, WWJ Newsradio, the Michigan Manufacturers Association and the auto industry and auto workers.
