NEW YORK, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Alan Capper has been named chairman and Martin Franken president and chief operating officer of Rowland Worldwide. The appointments were made as Herbert L. Rowland, chairman and chief executive officer, announced that he will leave the company effective Dec. 31, 1992.
The firm, acquired by Saatchi & Saatchi Company Plc. in 1985 and now the world's sixth largest public relations operating company, also announced that John Cameron has been appointed deputy chairman of Rowland Worldwide.
Mr. Rowland, who founded the company in January 1961, said it was time for the senior management that he had assembled to move Rowland Worldwide forward into the next phase of global growth.
Mr. Capper said that the company will announce shortly details of a new operating structure that "will complete the evolution of Rowland Worldwide into a cohesive international public relations firm, directed and managed to meet the complex needs of our clients and the markets they and we serve."
"This restructuring of our management reflects the unique international character that we have achieved and will now aggressively exploit," Mr. Capper said.
Rowland Worldwide has 34 offices in Europe, Asia/Pacific and the United States, including offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Zurich, Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Among the major international clients for which it has assignments are Du Pont, 3M, Sandoz, Samarec, Mars, Argyle Diamonds, Procter & Gamble, Omron Electronics, McNeil Consumer Products, Canon, IBM, Jardine Matheson, Mastercard and Yamaha. The firm has 600 staff and revenues in excess of $50 million.
Mr. Capper joined Rowland in 1985 when the company he chaired, Granard Communications, was acquired. Prior to assuming his current position, he was co-chairman of the company and regional director for European Operations. He is a resident of London.
Mr. Franken joined Rowland in 1987 as chief financial officer of its New York office. He was named Rowland Worldwide's chief financial officer in 1988, and chief operating officer in 1991. He is a certified public accountant, a graduate of Rutgers University School of Business and resides in Holmdel, N.J.
Mr. Cameron was chief executive of Neilson McCarthy Public Relations, one of Australia's largest public relations firms, when that company was acquired by Rowland in 1987. He was appointed regional chairman for Asia/Pacific in 1989.
Mr. Franken said that the restructuring was fully supported by Saatchi & Saatchi Company Plc., Rowland Worldwide's parent company. "The operational structure that we have put in place provides us with increased effectiveness in managing our day-to-day business and focusing resources on growth opportunities," Mr. Franken concluded.
Rowland Worldwide, headquartered in New York, is a subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi Company Plc., London.
