CANON COMPUTER SYSTEMS INTRODUCES NEW PORTABLE BUBBLE JET PRINTER, THE BJ-10sx; OFFERS AFFORDABLE LASER-QUALITY OUTPUT

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Canon Computer Systems Inc. (CCSI) today introduced the BJ-10sx, an enhanced performance, lighter weight model of the market's best selling portable Bubble Jet printer. Featuring a slim 1.9-inch profile, the BJ-10sx weighs only 3.7 pounds yet delivers 360 dots-per-inch (dpi) laser-like output. With a print speed of 110 cps, the new BJ-10sx is 30-percent faster than its predecessor, the BJ-10ex, in text mode. The BJ-10sx is available immediately and has an expected street price under $300.
"The new BJ-10sx offers portable computer users the best mix of performance, portability and price for monochrome printing," said Carolyn Perrier, director of peripherals marketing at CCSI. "The BJ-10sx continues to provide our price-conscious customers with a laser quality solution whether they are on-the-go or in a permanent location.
The Bubble Jet market accounts for more than 18 percent of all printer sales according to market analysts at International Data Corp. (IDC) in Framingham, Mass. This is the fastest growing segment of the printer market and IDC estimates that by 1996 the ink jet market share in the United States will exceed the laser printer installed base.
Rugged Performance in a Sleek, Light-weight Portable Package
Engineered for durability, the BJ-10sx comes with a two-year domestic warranty. It operates with either AC power or an optional battery pack which will allow users to print up to 40 pages of output from a single charge. The BJ-10sx is quiet to operate with an acoustic noise level during use of only 45dB(A). Measuring less than 2 inches in height, the slim profile of the BJ-10sx fits easily into a briefcase or carrying tote.
The BJ-10sx utilizes a high resolution 64-nozzle print head that produces 360 dpi resolution on letter and legal size plain paper, transparencies or envelopes. The snap-in printer cartridge (BC-01) is simple for users to replace and provides 700,000 characters, or 466 pages, in high quality mode. Print cartridges are $25 (MSRP). For multiple copy requirements, an optional 50-page sheet feeder is available.
