CANNELL AND PREMIER REACH BARTER AGREEMENT ON 'COBRA'

HOLLYWOOD, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen J. Cannell Productions Inc. and Premier Advertiser Sales, a Paramount Communications Co., have concluded an agreement for Premier to represent the barter advertising sales on Cannell's latest production for first-run syndication, "Cobra." The new series, starring Michael Dudikoff, has already been cleared in 68 percent of the country and was formerly titled "Viper." The announcement was made jointly by Kerry McCluggage, chairman of the Paramount Television Group, and Stephen J. Cannell, chairman of Stephen J. Cannell Productions Inc.
In making this announcement, McCluggage stated, "Since we last worked together on `The A-Team,' Stephen and I have been looking to work together again. This project provided the opportunity."
Cannell added, "Premier is a great media sales operation, and their interest in `Cobra' has created a mutually beneficial situation."
Coincidentally, both production companies had been developing shows titled "Viper"; Cannell's for first-run and Paramount's, a 13-episode commitment for CBS. Although the two series are different conceptually, both Cannell and Paramount were concerned that confusion could have been created had both shows premiered with the same title. While Paramount's series is ba ?upon the actual car which bears the name "Viper," Cannell's series is based upon a fictitious character whose name, "Viper," could be changed without sacrificing the creative concept of the series.
"Cobra" is the fourth first-run offering from The Cannell Studios, following the success of "Renegade," last fall's No. 1 new first-run action hour, "Street Justice" and "21 Jump Street."
Premier is the nation's largest advertiser sales company, surpassed only by the four commercial networks. Marc Hirsch is president of Premier, which is located in New York. Premier's first- run successes include one-hour series such as "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "The Untouchables."
The Paramount Television Group is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCI)
