         CANADIAN OCCIDENTAL EXPLORATION ANNOUNCES UPDATE
                  ON REPUBLIC OF YEMEN PROJECT
    CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd., on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary, CanadianOxy Offshore International Limited, and its partners, Consolidated Contractors International Company SAL, Occidental International Exploration and Production Company and Pecten Yemen Company (a Shell Oil Company subsidiary), announces further activity on the 6.8 million-acre Masila Block in the eastern part of the Republic of Yemen.
    Extended production tests of the discovery wells Camaal-2 and Camaal-3X have been completed. Three separate intervals of the Qishn formation were tested at Camaal-2 resulting in stabilized pump rates of 3,630, 4,165 and 4,875 barrels of oil per day, for a total of 12,670 barrels of oil per day. Camaal-3X also tested three separate intervals at stabilized pump rates of 1,835, 4,475 and 4,485 barrels of oil per day, for a total of 10,795 barrels of oil per day. Production from the tests had an API gravity range of 29.5 degrees to 32.7 degrees.
    A successful step out well on the Sunah discovery, Sunah-2, has encountered 10 metres of pay in the Qishn formation. Production tests have been scheduled at Sunah-2 as well as at Sunah-1 and Heijah-1.
    To date, the 1991 exploratory program has drilled nine wells, five of them successfully. Three seismic crews are currently working on a 2,000 km. seismic survey. The three drilling rigs now in service will drill the four wells remaining in the thirteen well 1991 exploratory program.  All of the remaining wells will explore previously undrilled structures. A service rig will continue to conduct production testing of the successful wells.
